Central Park - Wollman Rink

One activity I was eager to scratch off my "to-do" list was to ice skate in Central Park during the holidays. My wish was granted December 2022 when visiting NYC for the holiday season. Temperatures dropped significantly into the lower 30's as the day elapsed so after our ice skating session we decided to rendezvous with another couple on the plateau above the rink for a hot, spiked drink (best hot chocolate I've ever had). I wanted a shot of the rink but unfortunately I did not own a wide angle lens at the time to capture the entire venue from my position but I was able to use this camera trick of capturing someone else's image of Wollman Rink through her phone using my 85mm.

Dumbo - Manhattan Bridge

Traveled through a cold and rainy day to reach one of Pinterest's most favorited picturesque locations, the Manhattan "DUMBO" Bridge. Industrially known as "Down Under the Manhattan Bridge Overpass," the DUMBO Bridge is an iconic landmark that connects Brooklyn to Lower Manhattan over the East River. Every attribute in this image contributes to the ambience and beauty of this shot - the light beams bouncing off of the Belgian cobblestone street, the dreary post-shower mist vaguely enveloping the distant steel structure and New Yorkers (or tourist) protecting themselves from the drizzle evokes a soft, solo jazz vibe as you imagine the daily life of the big city. I used my 70-200mm to bring the bridge in closer from the background.

Hudson Yards - The Vessel

This picture was actually captured during a second attempt to do some street/urban photography in Hudson Yards. Initially came a day or two before to view New York City from The Edge but the weather conditions deterred our approach and we rescheduled our tickets for a later day. That day, I was able to return to Hudson Yards and capture this bronze beauty using my 85mm lens.

Greenwich Village - Washington Arch

Who wakes up at 7am and decides to travel on foot from Lower Manhattan to Times Square? Well... any street photographer will do that. I would say this picture of the Washington Square Arch was the first significant shot I achieved this day. Adjacent to New York University, this park was teeming with life as university students, artists and casual joggers brought sustenance to this square making it yet another addition to New York's most sought out picture locations. Another image shot with the 85mm.

Manhattan - New Yorker Hotel

We finally made it to the upper levels of The Edge observatory tower. Here, among other observation towers, you can almost get a panoramic view of New York City in all it's splendor. Sadly a clear view of the Empire State Building was impossible due to an obscuring building in front of it but I was able to capture the New Yorker Hotel by Wyndham with, once again, my 85mm.

Brooklyn - Brooklyn Botanical Garden

Brooklyn Botanical Garden offered a nice stroll through New York's Fall weather and presented some nice botanical display to capture - like the Japanese Garden where during the right season you can find cherry trees and this magnificent Torii which was shot with, you guessed it, my 85mm.
